Heoncheonsu
Heoncheonsu, a solo daegeum piece, is derived from Samhyeonyukgak, which is performed for dance accompaniment and at royal banquets. It is also called Ginyeombul or Gwanakyeombul. It is often used as a solo piece for wind instruments and is sometimes performed as a duet of danso (a short vertical end-blown pipe) and saenghwang (a mouth organ) or danso and yanggeum (a dulcimer). The melody of Heoncheonsu consists of two parts: the first part is played using the original melody, while the second, which is a repetitive part, is played an octave higher. The section played one-octave higher is called the ¡°soeneungarak¡± meaning ¡°melody in the higher range.¡±
Pyeongjohoesang
Pyeongjohoesang is a piece created by transposing Yeongsanhoesang down a perfect 4th. Yeongsanhoesang has changed from vocal to instrumental music since 1680, and several derivative pieces have developed. It is thought that Pyeongjohoesang appeared in the course of this process. Pyeongjohoesang is also known as Yuchosinjigok or Chwitaepyeongjigok. Pyeongjohoesang is often performed by a large-scale orchestra and is a suite of 8 pieces: ¡°Sangnyeongsan,¡± ¡°Jungnyeongsan,¡± ¡°Seryeongsan,¡± ¡°Garakdeori,¡± ¡°Sanghyeondodeuri,¡± ¡°Yeombuldodeuri,¡± ¡°Taryeong,¡± and ¡°Gunak.¡± The tempo of the pieces proceeds ¡°slow-moderate-fast,¡± and the overall mood is leisurely and elegant.
